Within the framework of “Young Voices Challenging Inequalities” project implemented under the global “Men and Women for Gender Equality” campaign in partnership with UN Women and Save the Children International, Fe-Male’s Feminist Clubs members had a golden chance of meeting with two actual change makers and activists in the Lebanese Society.
In two separate events, both Nabatieh (South Lebanon) and Tripoli (North Lebanon) Feminist Clubs members met with D, Co-founder and the Managing Editor of Daraj media platform and who is considered to be a prominent voice for the defense of human and women’s rights through the different documentaries she produced, and discussed with her the material presented in her documentary “Against Me”. The documentary show-cased the reality of the discriminatory Personal Status Law in Lebanon, and gave the youth the chance to express their opinions on this matter openly and safely, while learning about the different forms of violence women and girls are suffering because of those religious laws, starting with child marriage and not ending with custody, inheritance…
In addition, the feminist club members got to meet with Dr. Ziad Njeim, a prominent and leading TV anchor and feminist activist, who shared and discussed with them his controversial ideas about women’s rights, gender equality, democracy building, and freedom of expression, etc. in the country. The discussion was a lively one, that allowed the youth to be introduced to new concepts and way of thinking. At the end of the event, many of them expressed that this session contribute to changing their attitudes towards different issues related to women’s rights and gender equality.
